01 · The audit
What is a friction audit, exactly?
A half-day to two-day shadow of your operation, depending on the tier. We walk the field-to-office workflow path, time every manual handoff, inventory the systems, and surface 3 to 10 prioritized Quick Wins with calculated ROI. You leave with a PDF and a 60-90 minute walkthrough.
What if you don't find a 3:1 ROI Quick Win?
You keep the PDF and we shake hands. The audit fee covers the work either way. About 1 in 12 audits comes out without a clear Quick Win, usually because the operator has already automated the obvious. In that case we'll say so.
Can I do the audit and not the implementation?
Yes. The audit is the only commitment. About a third of clients take the PDF and implement internally or with an existing developer. We don't gate the report.
Do you sign an NDA?
Yes. We have a standard mutual NDA we send before kickoff, or we'll sign yours.
How long until you can start an audit?
Currently two weeks out. We run a small calendar so we can give every engagement Jon's full attention.
02 · Pricing & engagement
Why fixed price instead of hourly?
Hourly billing rewards us for taking longer. Fixed price + fixed date keeps us honest. You know what it costs before we start, and our incentive is to ship on time.
What does an implementation typically cost?
Quick Wins start at $4,500 for simple CRM/API integrations and run to $15,000+ for IoT or AI agent work. The audit gives you exact prices on every Quick Win before you commit.
Do you offer ongoing support?
Yes. $1,200/mo monitoring retainer covers production monitoring, occasional tweaks, and a quarterly ROI re-check against the audit. Quarterly opt-out. Optional, not required.
Do you bill by the month?
Only the monitoring retainer is monthly. Audits and implementations are billed at kickoff, mid-point, and acceptance, against fixed milestones.
03 · Tools & integrations
What systems do you integrate with?
Most modern CRM, accounting, dispatch, EMR, DMS, and MLS systems with documented APIs. ServiceTitan, QuickBooks, Salesforce, HubSpot, Athena, Epic (partner-side), AppFolio, Buildium, Clio, and many more. PLC and SCADA on the manufacturing side.
Do I own the code you write?
Yes. Every line. We ship to a repository you own, with documentation. No vendor lock-in.
Do you build new SaaS?
Generally no. We're an integration and automation shop, not a product company. If you need new SaaS we'll point you to someone who builds that.
Can you work with my existing developer?
Yes. Many clients have an in-house developer or contractor we hand the implementation to. We can also pair with them through the build.
04 · Compliance & security
Are your healthcare patterns HIPAA-compliant?
We build HIPAA-aware patterns with proper data separation, audit logging, and access controls. We sign BAAs. Compliance, ultimately, is your responsibility and your compliance officer's responsibility. We give you a defensible posture and the documentation behind it.
Where does our data live?
Wherever you tell us. We deploy to your AWS, Azure, or GCP account, or to a managed environment you specify. We don't operate a multi-tenant cloud you have to trust.
Do you work with regulated data outside healthcare?
Yes. Legal matter data, financial PII, real estate transaction data, and similar. We discuss compliance posture in the audit.
05 · About KITSCo
Who is KITSCo?
KITSCo Automation is Jon Klinger. Fifteen years of industrial automation experience, now applied to local back-office systems. Based in Raleigh, serving the Triangle and the rest of North Carolina.
How big is the team?
Small. Jon does the audits and architecture personally. Implementation work pulls in trusted contractors when we need scale, but every engagement is owned by Jon end to end.
Why the name KITSCo?
Keep It True, Simple, Concrete. The three things we got tired of seeing missing in vendor pitches: honest math, simple architectures, concrete outcomes.
